Dear Marysville Community,
In the vibrant heart of Marysville Getchell High School, where dreams take flight and champions are born, there exists a critical need that binds us all - the need to support our C-Teams. Historically, our school district has funded athletic programs, but as many of you know, financial challenges have shifted the landscape. Today, student athletics are "pay to play," and the fees charged to our athletes simply don't cover the full cost of running these essential programs.
This is where the Green & Gold Boosters step in, with passion and dedication, to bridge the gap. We are the lifeline for all our student athletes, musicians, and the senior class. We tirelessly fundraise, host events, and rally behind our students, showing up in full force to cheer them on. We ensure that every student knows they matter, that they are seen, valued, and supported by their community.
From selling the coveted MG Spirit Wear to rallying volunteers, Boosters is the backbone ensuring our kids and coaches have what they need. But today, we come to you with an urgent plea. Our C-Teams are at risk of being cut. The $125 fee per student doesn’t cover the costs of coaches, equipment, gym time, referees, transportation, and more. We need to raise $24,000 to keep C-Teams at MGHS this year.
You might wonder, "Why do C-Teams matter? It's only freshmen that are affected." But remember, C-Teams are crucial. They ensure 14-year-olds are not being tackled by 18-year-olds. They provide a safe environment for our freshmen to learn and understand the game, to develop their skills the right way.
And sports matter deeply. Here are just 3 reasons why high school athletic programs are vital to student success:
1. Mental Health: Athletics are a powerful outlet for stress and anxiety. They provide a structured environment where students can channel their energy positively, fostering resilience and mental well-being.
2. Teamwork and Leadership: Participation in sports teaches invaluable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership. These experiences shape our students into well-rounded individuals ready to tackle future challenges.
3. Academic Success: Studies consistently show that student-athletes tend to perform better academically. The discipline and time management skills gained on the field translate into the classroom, driving higher academic achievement.
For some of our kids, sports are the anchor that helps them navigate high school. Without them, they might not make it through.
